こま絵には仮名手本忠臣蔵の各段に取材した絵を描き、メインの絵にはそれと似た趣の庶民風俗を描くことで両者の対比を狙った作品です。
In this series, each inset cartouche depicts a scene from Chushingura(Treasury of the Loyal Retainers), and this is likened in the main part of the design to a genre scene which shares elements of the everyday lives of the people in Edo.
